What Lars Missed Because We Didn’t go to Iceland Sooner

Since 1935 Iceland has its own 50 km cross country ski race, Fossavatnsgangan (oddly enough, this is pronounced just like it looks), which is based near the town of ISAFJORÐUR (yep, that translates as Ice Fjord…pronunciation notes in a later post) in northern Iceland. Fossavatnsgangan had its last race this season on 04 May and had to restructure the race course because of bad weather predictions (meaning too much snow was gonna melt).
Starting in 2013 Fossavatnsgangan is one of the Partner Races in the Euroloppet program (http://www.euroloppet.com/). The 04 May race had participants from 15 countries, mostly from Europe and Nordic contries, as well as a few from the USA.
Soon Iceland will be extensively green and  golfing season will be in full swing (pun intended) on the many golf courses (golfvellir) that have sprung up in Iceland in recent decades. Golfvellirland??
