Today we drove to Folgefonna Nasjonalpark, with our goal being to hike up to a small lake just below a small outlet glacier. About 6 years ago, this glacier extended down to the darker green tree line. We walked up the small, steep valley that this small glacier has occupied in past 100s to 1000s of years. When the national park was established in 2005, Queen Sonja signed one of the rocks near the lake. She is an enthusiastic hiker.
Before we get to the pretty rapids and pools, flowers and berries in this valley, we would like to ask that you vote for this curly headed beauty, #68.
Rapids and pools are the centerpieces of this glacially modified valley, with scattered groups of pretty white flowers, bright green ferns, ripening blueberries, etc.
On the top we stopped for lunch.
and to get a good view of the glacier.
And then, in true Norwegian fashion, it began to rain, so out came the jackets. Never go walking for any distance in Norway without a rain-jacket! And, of course, before we had walked back to our car, rain had stopped and sun was shining again and sky was blue where we had lunch.
