Jarðskjálftavirkni!! (Earthquake Activity)

Iceland is maybe preparing a show for us? Starting in middle of this week there has been a swarm of tiny-to-small earthquakes about 30km off the tip of Reykjanes (RAYK-yah-ness) Peninsula, along the Reykjanes Ocean Ridge, near a previous eruption site that is now a nature preserve for birds – Fuglasker (FOO-glah-skare--Bird Skerry). Some of these earthquakes were large enough (4.5) to be felt widely in south-west Iceland. Note that this level of activity is rather common in this area and may not have any direct relationship to a near-term volcanic eruption.

Previously, there have been some larger (up to 5.5) earthquakes offshore, north of Akureyri (AH-que-rey-ree), near Siglufjörður (SIG-loo-fyuhr-thur), where we will be later in our tour.
